In a valley called Pesseroles , between Gratallops and Porrera , vineyards of Grenache and Carignan centenarians are grown. It is an old bridle path where you sink on the board to the knees. Here comes this wine , complex , mineral, seriously and takes us on a journey in time through the most rustic and antique Priorat.
Red Wine (80% Garnacha y 20% Cariñena) D.O. Priorat. This wine comes from three vineyards located along the path of Pesseroles between Porrera and Gratallops . The vineyard is emplaced on a slate floor ground , so crushed that combined with this clay in this area , gives an extreme fluffiness to the ground.
Grenache was harvested too early , a week earlier than usual. Carignan was harvested 10 days later than the Garnacha . Winemaking, start with a carbonic maceration . It all leavened together for 36 days, using the new foudre wood during this phase to tame the wildness and connect to the ground. Aged for 20 months in barrels of 225 liters with a 1 year of use and 30 % approx. new oak .
Cherry color with garnet edge. Powerful aroma, toasted. The palate is medium to full-bodied with earthy tannins and good intensity, no doubt lifted by the alcohol.
Although they did not have a previous winemaking tradition , Josep Lluís Pérez and his family ( Pérez Ovejero ) , the project began in 1986 Viticultors Mas Martinet .
It was then a detailed study on microclimate , soil type and grape varieties that made them choose the Mas Martinet , situated between Falset and Gratallops , a privileged area for the production of high quality wines .
Today José Luis Pérez delegate functions in one of the most prestigious Spanish winemakers of today ( Mustiguillo , Celler Roure, Castell de Perellada , Artadi , Numanthia , Hereus Riba projects ) his daughter Sara Pérez, whose work has been spectacular in the Priorat .
